SWEET revenge for the Alexandra! The Nelson snooker club, hammered by Darwen's Punch Hotel in last year's North West small table final, knocked them out of this season's campaign on their own table.
Justin Astley slammed an 80-plus break but he can only play one frame and the Punch went down 4-3 to the Alex who are now in the quarter-finals and warm favourites to go one better in the final this time.
West View dug deep to win 4-3 on the Clitheroe Legion table. Two Legion stars were subdued - Steve Kerr went down to Ian McTavish in a scrappy frame and Jim Amos beat Peter "Sprog" Mercer who had potted the black to win - only for the white to trickle in as well. Dave Stephens played a blinder in the deciding frame.
Feniscowles (Blackburn) joined them in the last eight on Sunday with a 4-3 win over visitors Royal Venue (Poulton). Ian Dickinson and Mark Jennings got the Fenny off to a flying start and Andy Maudsley won a third frame. Chris Lawson was never in much trouble in winning the final frame.
Other matches currently being arranged for places in the quarters are: Padiham WMC v Hotels and Apartments (Blackpool), Highfield No 2 (Blackpool) v Fox & Hounds (Blackburn) Abinger Street (Burnley) v Bispham Con, Talbot Con (Blackpool) v Riley's (Blackburn), Ighten Leigh No 1 (Burnley) v Hoddlesden Con (Darwen).
The semi-finals and finals will again be played early in May on the Claremont Con table at Blackpool.
