BURNLEY manager Owen Coyle admitted he was unsure why both captain Steven Caldwell and first-half substitute Joey Gudjonsson were sent off in the 2-0 defeat at Hull City last night.
The pair were dismissed for two yellow card offences, after Hull's Caleb Folan and Jay-Jay Okocha received straight red cards.
Caldwell, who will miss Saturday's match at Stoke City as he serves a one-match ban, was the first Burnley player to be given his marching orders, on 71 minutes.
He was booked following an altercation with Caleb Folan, who got an instant dismissal, and picked up a second yellow card for dragging back Fraizer Campbell as the striker threatened to burst through on goal.
Gudjonsson followed him down the tunnel five minutes later after also receiving a second booking.
The first was for a foul in midfield, and the second after going down in the area during an incident which also saw Okocha red-carded.
The Iceland international will be forced to sit out the next two games having been sent off earlier in the season.
Coyle added: "A couple of the incidents I just didn't see.
"For the first red card I just saw Steven Caldwell lying down and then I thought it was a harsh second yellow for his sending off on the halfway line.
"Equally, I never saw Jay Jay Okocha's either and with Joey, I am curious to know why he earned a yellow card there on the say so of the assistant referee.
"They must have seen something, but there you go.
"We want to see people paying their hard earned money to see 11 v 11 every week, but I am not getting away from the fact that we never got to the standards we have set previously and that's what disappoints me from the game."
