Rovers will be ball number four in tonight’s Carabao Cup third round draw.

It is the first time since 2018 that Rovers have reached this stage of the competition after wins over Hartlepool United and Bradford City.

They last reached this stage with wins over Carlisle United and Lincoln City before being knocked out by Bournemouth.

Championship sides have struggled in this year’s competition with Rovers and Burnley the two confirmed second-tier sides in round three, the latter having only entered in round two.

Bristol City can make that three when they face Wycombe Wanderers tonight, with the draw to take place live on Sky Sports this evening.

John Barnes and John Aldridge will conduct the draw at the conclusion of Tranmere Rovers and Newcastle United’s second round tie.

The draw isn’t regionalised as the competition reaches the final 32, with the Premier League sides involved in European competition entering at this stage.

Third round ties are scheduled for the week commencing November 7 which is followed by the World Cup break.

For Rovers the game will follow a home game with Huddersfield Town on November 5 and come ahead of the trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley on November 12.

There are 28 teams confirmed for round three, with 16 from the Premier League, with the potential of that figure rising to 19 after tonight’s games. Fulham are the only top-flight side to be eliminated so far, losing to League Two side Crawley Town on Tuesday night.

They are one of four League Two sides confirmed in the round three draw, along with Gillingham, Newport County and Stevenage.
