Rovers target Anel Ahmedhodzic has completed a move to Championship rivals Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.
The 23-year-old defender .played under Jon Dahl Tomasson at Malmo as the club won back-to-back league titles.
He spent time on loan at Bordeaux last season, making 15 appearances as the French club finished bottom of Ligue 1.
Ahmedhodzic is no stranger to English football, spending three years with Nottingham Forest between 2016 and 2019, in which he made one appearance in the Championship against Newcastle United.
The defender also has experience at international level, having represented the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
He has signed a four-year deal at Bramall Lane as the Blades look to bounce back from last season’s defeat against Nottingham Forest in the play-offs.
“It feels amazing to complete this deal,” said Ahmedhodzic. “It has been three hectic days, a lot of testing, and I’m glad it is done.
“I don’t want to talk about how I will play, I just want to get out there and show everyone.
“(Assistant manager) Jack Lester is one of the reasons why I signed. I really liked him at Nottingham Forest.
“The time we had together was amazing and just what I needed at that time – I am hoping for an even better time here.”
Manager Paul Heckingbottom added: “Anel is someone we tried get in January but we have tracked his progress, stayed in touch and managed to beat off a number of suitors.
“He had a desire to come back to England and what has stuck in his head is that we were early with our interest, got in ahead of a number of others clubs, identified him as a major target and sold the club to him. The connection has been important.
“We have had to pay a fee for him. We have managed to get the deal over the line, which is great. He will be an important player for us. It is important we use every market as we continue to build our squad for next season.”
