The Scandinavian feel to Rovers’ football restructuring continues – with Danish boss Jon Dahl Tomasson having held talks over the head coach position.
Tomasson has been a name in the frame since the start of the month and reports in his native Denmark say that a three-year contract offer has been discussed, but nothing agreed.
That comes after Rovers held talks with Ronny Deila, the Norwegian coach currently boss at New York City FC.
However, the former Celtic boss looks set for a move to Belgian side Standard Liege whose hierarchy have strong links with the City Football Group.
Rovers appointed Gregg Broughton as their new director of football this week, having left his position at Norwegian top-flight side Bodo/Glimt.
Tomasson’s representatives, and Rovers, declined to comment on links with the Ewood Park hotseat earlier this week, but the former Newcastle United striker is keen to get back into work.
He left Malmo after two years in January, having led them to the Swedish top-flight title in both 2020 and 2021, winning 46 of his 85 matches in charge.
The 45-year-old has this summer been linked with the vacancies at both QPR and Hibs, though Rovers look to have turned their attentions to Tomasson, although no deal has been agreed as things stand.
Tomasson won 52 caps for Denmark as a player, winning domestic titles with both Feyenoord and AC Milan, before retiring in 2011.
Prior to landing the Malmo job in January 2020, Tomasson was assistant manager at Dutch side Excelsior, later becoming manager for a 25-game spell.
He left his role there to take up the head coach position with Roda JC, but left after relegation and just six months in charge.
Tomasson was then assistant manager at Vitesse Arnhem for a season, before taking up a role with the Denmark national team, working as assistant manager for three-and-a-half years before landing the Malmo job.
