Aberdeen are interested in a move for Jacob Davenport following his release by Rovers.

Davenport’s exit was confirmed by the club when they published their retained list last month, bringing to an end his four years at Ewood Park.

The 23-year-old managed only 36 appearances across an injury-hit stay with Rovers, and didn’t feature at all in 2022.

That saw Aberdeen approach Rovers about the prospect of a loan move, and while that failed to materialise in the January transfer window, Davenport could yet make the move north of the border.

The interest remains, with Davenport now searching for a new club as Rovers opted against extending his contract.

Davenport, who also turned down the opportunity of a loan move to a League One club in January, also has interest from EFL clubs, having previously spent time on loan at Burton Albion.

He will now weigh up his future, but Dons boss Jim Goodwin is keen to bring him to the club.

Aberdeen will be looking to improve on last season’s 10th-placed finish, having lost key man Ryan Hedges to Rovers in the January transfer window.

Davenport came through the ranks at Manchester City before joining Rovers for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2018. He was the club’s second signing after promotion from League One, arriving highly-regarded and handed a four-year deal.

His departure, well as Bradley Johnson and Joe Rothwell, leaves Rovers short of options in the middle of the park, something they will need to address during the transfer window.
