BURNLEY are interested in signing KV Oostende forward Makhtar Gueye this summer, according to reports.

Vincent Kompany is expected to become the Clarets’ new manager and is keen on the 24-year-old, according to a report by Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad.

Gueye joined Oostende from French outfit Saint-Etienne back in 2020 and has gone on to make 64 appearances for the club.

The forward scored 12 goals in 31 games last season, including a brace in a 2-2 draw against Kompany’s Anderlecht.

The report claims that Burnley have informed Oostende of their interest in Gueye and the Belgian side are willing to sell.

The Clarets’ struggled in the final third last season, with only Maxwel Cornet (nine) and Jay Rodriguez (seven) managing more than three goals in all competitions.

Burnley have also been linked with a move for Manchester City youngster Taylor Harwood-Bellis as they prepare for life back in the Championship.

The defender played under Kompany during a loan spell with Anderlecht during the first half of last season and also spent time at Stoke in recent months.

Speaking back in March, he said: “I have learned a lot playing under (Kompany) and the standards he set.

"They are impeccable. He comes in every day and does everything he can to make himself and everyone better and he is a winner in the way he behaves and speaks.

"I feel I am on the right track to have the mindset he has.

"He made everyone around him get that boost with his stature. I noticed that massively when I played for him.”
