Thomas Kaminski has been left out of the Belgium squad for their four Nations League matches next month.

Roberto Martinez has named an extended 32-man squad given the increased number of fixtures, which includes four goalkeepers, but Kaminski isn’t among them.

Simon Mignolet, Koen Casteels and Matz Sels have all been preferred to the Rovers No.1 in back-up to first-choice Thibaut Courtois for the upcoming fixtures.

Kaminski has been a regular in the Belgian squad, including being a late call-up to the Euro 2020 finals, but is still to win his first cap for the Red Devils.

Despite his excellent form again for Rovers this season, having won the player of the year prize in his debut campaign, he hasn’t been named in the latest squad, as Belgium face Netherlands, Wales and Poland twice in the space of 11 days as the Nations League matches get under way.

The 29-year-old has been capped at every level by the national team up to the senior side, where that elusive cap has so far evaded him.

Belgium opted in March to only select players with under 50 caps for their matches in March which opened the door for Kaminski to feature.

However, he was overlooked by Martinez who handed a debut to Matz Sels, someone who Kaminski takes inspiration from.

Sels had to wait until he was 30 for his first cap after previously being overlooked, so with time on his side, Kaminski is getting too fixated on making his debut for his country.

Kaminski signed a new long-term deal with Rovers earlier this year, continuing his journey at the club after signing for £450,000 in the summer of 2020.

Prior to his arrival at Rovers he said that wasn’t something on his radar, believing moving to England has been key for him to get back into the national set-up, something that hadn’t previously happened while playing for KAA Gent in Belgium.

“I was close, but then I’ve been far away,” Kaminski said of his aims for a first Belgium cap.

“It’s something you think about, but as I can remember Matz Sels had been there many years and had to wait for a cap and he’s there now.

“It’s not easy to come into the team with such a big group of goalies.”

Chile, Republic of Ireland and Namibia all have matches next month, which could see Ben Brereton, Darragh Lenihan and Ryan Nyambe involved for their respective countries

Tyrhys Dolan was on the scoresheet after his first call-up to the England Under-20s squad in March and will be looking for more involvement next season, with no fixtures currently scheduled for June.
