With Tony Mowbray’s time at Rovers coming to an end, the speculation over who his replacement will be has already begun.
Sky Bet have opened a market as to who will be the next man in the Rovers hotseat, the list including two of the club’s former managers, a fan, two ex-players, as well as many of the usual suspects.
Michael Appleton has been installed as the 4/1 favourite for the job, though much of that will centre around his departure from Lincoln City coinciding with Mowbray’s announcement that the final game of the season against Birmingham City will be his last.
Appleton lasted just 15 games and 57 days as Rovers manager in early 2013, but has had success with Lincoln City where he spent three seasons, helping them reach the League One play-off final last season.
Another Rovers manager, Paul Lambert, is listed in the odds at 20/1, while you can get 25/1 on former players Simon Grayson and Robbie Fowler.
Gareth Ainsworth, a boyhood Rovers fan and currently in charge of Wycombe Wanderers, is third favourite at 8/1.
Second favourite is current Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes at 6/1.
Others listed are Lee Johnson (8/1), while you can get 10/1 on Joey Barton (Bristol Rovers), Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Duff (Cheltenham Town) and Rob Edwards (Forest Green Rovers).
Roy Keane is at 12/1, while others in the market include Chris Hughton (14/1), SC Braga manager Carlos Carvalhal (20/1), Michael Carrick (20/1), Freddie Ljungberg (25/1), Neil Lennon (25/1) and Sol Campbell (25/1).
