BURNLEY face a race against time to capture exciting Argentine wide man Marcelo Carrusca on loan.
With the transfer window closing at midnight tonight, manager Owen Coyle is pulling out all the stops to secure the 24-year-old until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent move.
And the Clarets boss is keeping his fingers crossed that complications with Carrusca's current club, Galatasary, don't scupper the deal.
"We've been consistent all the way along, but there's been a mix-up at the other end, so it's between Galatasaray and the player to sort out. We just have to wait and see what happens," said Coyle.
"It could go to the wire. The lad's in Turkey and we're here so that doesn't leave a lot of time to sort things out, and with it being an international transfer it would have to be done today.
"He wants to come to Burnley and play in England. He knows it's an opportunity to come to show everyone how good a player he is and to put the spotlight on himself."
Should the deal go through in time, Coyle believes Argentina Under 20 Carrusca will be an effective addition to a squad that was this week boosted by Sunderland striker Andrew Cole signing on loan until the end of the season, with Black Cats defender Stanislav Varga also extending his stay until May.
"Marcelo's a player that we're very excited by," said Coyle.
"He's 24 years of age, plays wide left and has a quick delivery of the ball. He's just a very good player.
"He moved to Galatasary for seven million US dollars, but for one reason or another he hasn't settled.
"When Maradona said No Messi, no Tevez ... the new Maradona!' - I don't think it comes much better than that. That's a couple of years ago now so he's stalled a little bit, but this is an opportunity for him - and equally for us - to try to take it on again.
"I've seen him in the flesh about a year ago and been through the background stuff on him too.
"When I saw him I thought he was an unbelievable player, and I had a little reminder about him about six weeks ago so that's when I pursued it."
But it is possible that Carrusca isn't the only deal that could be completed today.
Managers are anticipating plenty of activity on deadline day, and the Clarets have not ruled out the possibilty of previous enquiries coming to fruition.
A £400,000 bid for Glenn Whelan was rejected by Sheffield Wednesday, but with the midfielder out of contract in the summer the Owls may decide to cash-in.
The future of Dundee United captain Barry Robson is also uncertain. Burnley were again knocked back in their approach, as were Nottingham Forest, but the League One side appear set to secure his signature after reportedly upping their offer to £1million.
There could also be movements for ex-Claret Alan Lee, who Ipswich Town value at around £1m.
But Coyle stressed that he would not panic buy.
"There are other bits and pieces but we know wer've got a very good squad of players when everyone is fully fit.
"We've brought Andy Cole in to complement the strikers.
"Players need to be the right personnel."
Kyle Lafferty, meanwhile, seems set to remain at Turf Moor after Celtic cooled their interest, at least as far as this transfer window is concerned.
The Hoops had a bid of over £3million, including Burnley target Derek Riordan, rejected and are unlikely to return with a higher offer at this stage.
Contrary to speculation north of the border, rivals Rangers are not expected to capitalise on the failed bid either.
