Steve Bruce has revealed he will be staying on as West Bromwich Albion manager – with planning for next season underway.

Bruce arrived at The Hawthorns in February, replacing the sacked Valerien Ismael, signing an 18-month deal.

Despite that, there has been speculation over the future of the experienced boss who has overseen only four wins in his 13 Championship matches, with the Baggies sliding out of promotion contention.

Bruce accepts that plenty of hard work lies ahead in a bid to turn the Baggies’ fortunes around, but is looking forward to the challenge.

Asked if he would be in charge next season, Bruce told reporters: “You can never tell in football but I’ve put all the plans in place and all the conversations I’ve had have been yes.

“It’s always been my intention to see it through.

“In our job, we know how precarious it is. But that (overhauling the squad) appeals to me, to try and get a squad that is good enough to be at the top end of the division.

“That does appeal to me. I’ve done it before, a few times, so I hope I can do it here.”

The news will end speculation over the managerial position at the club.

West Brom were expected to be automatic promotion contenders this season but have fallen away after a fine start, which led to Ismael’s departure in February.

With their play-off hopes over, Bruce has turned his attentions to next season but accepts there is plenty of hard work ahead.

He added: “I think it’s fair to say I’ve made my feelings pretty well known that we have got a huge summer ahead.”
