FORMER Clarets striker Andy Gray has thanked the Burnley faithful for their support and admitted he was disappointed at the way his Turf Moor tenure came to an end.

Gray, who made his full Charlton debut in their 1-0 win over Stoke last night, was signed by the Addicks earlier this month in a deal that could net the Clarets £2 million.

The Scotland international, who left as the club's top scorer with 13 goals this season, was left out of the squad to play Coventry, with manager Owen Coyle saying Gray felt he wasn't in the "right frame of mind".

An emergency loan deal was agreed with Charlton, with the permanent transfer signed and sealed at the end of last week.

Gray said: "I did not refuse to play, but given Burnley had indicated they were 99 per cent sure of concluding club-to-club matters, I felt it prudent for all parties to discuss the possibility of non selection in the best interests of everyone involved.

"Despite having an obvious interest in what clubs might have to say in the transfer window, it was Burnley who gave Charlton a price which was ultimately paid, followed by Burnley advising me they had accepted a bid and given me permission to talk.

"Given everything moved so quickly last weekend, I didn't get the chance to thank the fans, club and staff for contributing to what was an enjoyable stay."
