FORMER Manchester City and England defender Joleon Lescott reckons Burnley’s hopes of beating the drop are “not looking good”.

The Clarets currently find themselves in the bottom three, having won just three league matches all season.

Sean Dyche’s men are four points behind of 17th-placed Everton, who still have to play at Turf Moor next month.

They are only a point behind Watford, who beat Southampton in their last outing, but have played two fewer league matches than the Hornets.

But the gap to Leeds is now eight points following their 3-2 win against 10-man Wolves on Friday night.

The Yorkshire club have now won back-to-back league matches and seem to have turned a corner following Jesse Marsch's arrival.

And Lescott fears the Clarets may have left it too late as they look to secure a seventh successive season in the Premier League.

Speaking about Leeds’ recent upturn in form, he said: "I think that hurts Burnley more than any other team.

“I still think Everton will believe it is in their hands, and it is. They can control their own destiny.

“Burnley would've been thinking, ‘if we can win one of our games in hand we will be two points behind’.

“But they're now eight behind so it's not looking good."

Sean Dyche’s men are back in action on Saturday, April 2 when they welcome league leaders Manchester City to Turf Moor (KO 3pm).
