FIRST-HALF goals from Robbie Blake and Ade Akinbiyi were enough to push Burnley to within a point of the Championship play-offs spots.
A third win on the spin for the Clarets could have been more comfortable had they been able to make more of a host of chances against struggling Scunthorpe United.
But in the end the two from last weekend's goal heroes proved to be enough.
Blake fired Burnley in front after just nine minutes, when a missed clearance from James O'Connor's cross dropped to him just outside the box and he struck across goalkeeper Joe Murphy and into the bottom left corner.
Wade Elliott claimed another assist as he picked out an unmarked Akinbiyi at the far post, and the striker made it three goals in four starts under manager Owen Coyle with a close-range header just after the half-hour.
Scunthorpe's best chances fell to new signing Grant McCann, who struck the post from distance shortly after Brian Jensen had saved his 25-yard free kick.
Elliott, Chris McCann and Blake all had chances after the break but couldn't add to the scoreline.
