WITH a little over three weeks before the event a big question mark still hangs over which car four times previous winner of the rally Steve Simpson will drive on this year's Blackpool based Legend Fires North West Stages Rally.
The current National Tarmac Champion is still exploring the possibility of switching from his familiar Hyundai Accent WRC but is keeping his cards close to his chest.
Simpson said: "It may be the Accent, it may not. The decision could come as late as the week leading up to the rally."
In contrast rally sponsor Blackburn businessman John Stone has shown his hand by declaring that he and Lee Carter will contest the rally on February 16 in the MG Metro 6R4 which, in recent weeks, they've won the Specsavers Christmas Stages and finished runners-up on the Jack Frost Stages.
Stone said "The Accent is undergoing a complete rebuild and won't be ready in time."
Fans of the Metro 6R4 are in for a treat as entries have also been received from Peter Stojanov in his 2002 winning car, and Mark Jasper, who was leading last year's event before crashing out.
Roger Binyon will also be in contention in his DAM4100 version.
With this year's rally being run over six venues more marshals than ever are required and those able to offer their services, in return for a free goodie bag, should contact Darren Fox on 07877 555 527 (before 9pm) or by email to darren.fox@bssmc.com More details available at www.nwstages.co.uk
