TWO of East Lancashire's brightest young motorsport talents are teaming up and could be set to compete in this year's 205 Championship.

Blackburn's Phil Scholes and Accrington co-driver Jamie Foster have held discussions about a possible partnership for the forthcoming season.

And they have entered next month's North West Stages event in Blackpool to test out their skills.

Foster explained: "I think it's going to be good. We're both young and we've still got quite a lot to learn, but it'll be easier because we're both of a similar age.

"We're going to have a look and see how things go in the next few events and if everything's fine then we'll sit down and discuss the Championship."

However, all the early signs are good for the twosome, who were brought together after a phone call from Scholes' dad Rob.

And although he has only known his new driver for a matter of days, Foster is confident they can be a success.

He added: "My dad got a call asking if he knew anyone who could co-drive for Phil and he mentioned me. I had a chat with him and basically just decided to give it a shot.

"We get along really well and, even though I've only known him for a few days and we've only chatted to eachother a few times, it's like we've been friends for a long time.

"He seems like a quick lad as well and it'll give me a chance to progress a little further."
