BUNDESLIGA pundit Didi Hamann has backed Wout Weghorst to succeed at Burnley following his move from Wolfsburg.
Weghorst has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Turf Moor after scoring 59 goals in 188 games for the German club.
The forward has also been capped 12 times for the Netherlands and featured at the European Championships last summer, scoring in a 3-2 win against Ukraine in the group stage.
Hamann – who had spells at Liverpool and Manchester City during his playing career – says Weghorst is an upgrade on Chris Wood, who left the Clarets to join Newcastle earlier in the window.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "He averaged one in two for Wolfsburg and it was always his dream to come to the Premier League.
"He had a very good start when he came to Germany a couple of years back.
"I think in his mind he would maybe have liked to join a team that is a bit further up the league.
"I think he will improve Burnley. They have had lost Chris Wood who hasn’t been the most prolific, he (Weghorst) is a prolific goalscorer.
“I think it will enhance Burnley’s chances of staying in the Premier League."
The Clarets are back in action on Saturday when they host Watford in a massive game in the relegation battle (KO 6pm).
Sean Dyche’s men sit at the foot of the Premier League table but have several games in hands on the sides around them.
