Red tape could scupper Amdy Faye's chances of securing a loan move to Blackburn Rovers until the end of the season.
The former Newcastle and Portsmouth midfielder has been granted permission to spend a few days on trial at Brockhall this week.
However, the only way he could sign for the club is if FIFA agreed to overturn a rule, which currently prevents a player from playing for more than two clubs in one season.
A Rovers source said: "Amdy Faye has been given permission to train with us but he has yet to get approval from FIFA to sign for another club, having already played for both Charlton and Rangers this season."
