NEWCASTLE United are keen to land Burnley striker Chris Wood in the January transfer window, according to reports.
The Magpies have already brought in former Claret Kieran Trippier as they aim to maintain their Premier League status.
The Tyneside club have now identified Wood as a target following Callum Wilson’s injury, according to The Telegraph.
Wilson could be out for up to eight weeks after suffering a calf tear against Manchester United last month.
Wood has proved himself in the Premier League, having reached double figures in the last four seasons.
However, the New Zealand international has struggled to repeat his prolific form this term, having scored three goals in 17 appearances.
Newcastle – who have also been linked with James Tarkowski and Ben Mee - are reportedly aiming to sign Wood this week.
The Magpies sit 19th in the Premier League table and are level on points with the Clarets, who have two games in hand.
Eddie Howe’s men recorded a narrow 1-0 victory when the sides met at St James’ Park earlier this season, with Wilson scoring the decisive goal.
