BURNLEY began the post-Andy Gray era by taking an early lead against Coventry City, but went into the break level following Michael Doyle's 26th minute equaliser.
Ade Akinbiyi stroked home his sixth goal of the season after getting on the end of Wade Elliott's excellent right-wing cross.
Robbie Blake had the chance to make it 2-0 midway through the half but struck his right-foot shot straight at the goalkeeper.
Coventry were level three minutes later after the ball pinged around the area. Stanislav Varga blocked out Michael Mifsud, and as Burnley struggled to clear the danger Brian Jensen made a double save.
But Doyle pounced on the second rebound and thumped the ball into the roof of the net.
