FOOTBALL fans could soon receive the latest team news on their mobiles while they watch the match.

Blackburn Rovers are one of 12 Premier League clubs that has struck a deal that will target mobile phones users by using bluetooth teachnology.

By the end of next month, London-based Bluepod Media will have installed approximately 15 bluetooth units around Ewood Park.

The new system means club news can be sent to fans in the ground who have mobile phones with bluetooth capacity.

Fans will be given the option to sign up to the service and it will be free to receive.

With fixtures, managers' notes and even highlights being bluetoothed to the phones, adverts will be paid for by sponsors.

The system was trialled at Portsmouth last year and has attracted interest from English and Scottish top flight clubs.

Chris Kelly, of Bluepod Media, said: "Most phones have bluetooth capabillity now so we think this will be popular with fans.

"If fans say no and don't want to receive the service then they will not be repeatadly asked to sign up.

"It's completely free of charge to the end user. Fans are not going to get billed for this.

"There might be clips of last week's game available via this service and even profiles of the club's greatest ever players, or whatever the club wants to do."

The bluetooth devices will be installed at Ewood at the start of next month and have a range of up to 100metres.

Bluepod said they were looking to get other clubs involved in the scheme following the roll-out.

But Darren Bentley, of Burnley Football Club, said he had not heard of the system.

He would be interested to see how it fared, there were no immediate plans to install the bluetooth devices at Turf Moor.

Bluepod has launched a similar systems in selected cinemas operated by Vue and Cineworld.
