BLACKBURN marched triumphantly through to the last 16 of the EDF Senior Vase with a resounding victory over fellow league challengers Wigton.

The North Lancs and Cumbria League leaders ran in four tries but they could have had even more to show for their utter dominance.

Skipper Paul Bleasdale kicked Blackburn in to an early lead - the first of seven kicks and a try for the scrum half - before Millea drove over for the first try of the game.

Bleasdale added a superb conversion then slotted over two more penalties as Burn led 16-0 at the break.

He added another soon after the restart then fly half Radice crashed over under the posts, with the skipper again adding the extras.

Radice then played his part in Blackburn's cracking third try with a midfield break and, following some quick recycling, forwards Miller and Reay combined to send the latter in for a score.

Bleasdale nipped over for a deserved try which he converted himself to take his personal tally to 22 points.

Team Manager Richard Crayston said: "We dominated the game and the margin of our victory shows how complete our superiority was over 80 minutes.

"We played some super stuff and everybody contributed to a superb team performance."

Crayston will now be hoping for a home draw as the competition moves away from the North stages.

He said: "The competition now moves to a North and Midlands basis and there are some strong teams in the competition.

"Home draws could be crucial if we want to get to the latter stages so we'll be keen to see the draw to see who we get."
