GOAL hungry Robbie Blake is targeting double figures as he bids to help push Burnley into the Championship's top six.
The striker's excellent second half goal against Plymouth Argyle moved the Clarets to within four points of the play-off places as a run of nine games without a home win ended on Saturday.
And Blake has urged his team-mates to use winning the first home league game of 2008 at the first attempt to spur them on for the rest of the campaign.
"It's been bandied around that we haven't won at home and I'm pretty sure the longer it goes on it's more difficult to get the win. Now, with those three points in the new year it can kickstart us on to more wins and climbing the league," said the 31-year-old, who increased his tally for the season to six.
"If you look at the whole league it's very tight and we have to keep winning. As long as we're in the top half or top 10 in the last couple of months of the season we've got a great chance.
"That's only the third (league) game we've won at home all season. We need to win more if we're going to be in the top six so hopefully it will kick on from there now."
Blake, who is in his second spell with the Clarets after returning in the summer in a £250,000 deal from Leeds United, scored over 50 goals in his first stint at Turf Moor. And he is looking to retrieve similar form this time around.
"I've been a bit frustrated with my goalscoring this season," he said.
"It hasn't been the best of seasons in terms of goals for me. But hopefully now it's a new year I can grab a few more and try to get into double figures."
And he paid tribute to the role winger Wade Elliott played in creating his first goal since Burnley's last win at Wolves in early December.
"I thought Wade was fantastic. He drilled it and I just managed to direct it into the back of the net," Blake explained.
"But Wade's been different class all season. He attacks defenders and gets good crosses in and he's been tremendous for us this season.
"He's great to have in the side because you know you're going to create chances from him. He's a good outlet and he's a good lad as well.
"He's got a lot of ability and I'm pretty sure a lot of clubs will be watching him. But we want to keep our best players at Burnley and Wadey's certainly one of them."
Blake also includes strike partner Andy Gray in that bracket.
Burnley's 13-goal leading scorer is believed to be a target for Championship rivals Charlton Athletic , while the Clarets' only business so far is the one-month loan signing of Sunderland defender Stanislav Varga, as a bid for Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Glenn Whelan has been rejected.
Blake is aware that manager Owen Coyle is looking to add new faces to the squad in the January transfer window, but believes the current squad is capable of challenging for the top spots.
He said: "The gaffer may or may not bring some people in, but I definitely think we're good enough."
