ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman has called for a return to the old days as the traditional January scramble for players gets into top gear.
Coleman has been busy so far with Ian Craney and Mark King joining the Reds on permanent deals, and Andy Todd signing on loan until the end of the season.
But the Stanley supremo harks back to a return to the old system when clubs had more scope to strengthen their squads.
He said: "The transfer window is a difficult time for all managers.
"You generally get a rush towards the end of the transfer window, which is strange because you have a month to do some business, you shouldn't wait until the end.
"It's the only opportunity to try to strengthen permanently.
"I think you should be able to make signings whenever you want.
"It's a restriction of trade and I don't think it would happen in any other industry."
