Ben Brereton feels Rovers have reason to be excited after his first career hat-trick helped them to a 5-1 win over Cardiff City.

The Chile international is up to seven goals in an impressive start to the season after his treble against the Bluebirds helped maintain Rovers’ spot in the top six.

Brereton was keen to pass the praise on to his team-mates and is feeling a togetherness within the squad which he feels can take Rovers a long way.

“The start of the season people probably weren’t believing in us as much but it’s coming together, the togetherness in the team in training is brilliant,” Brereton explained.

“We’ve got a young squad, everyone is playing well and wanting each other to do well, there’s no selfish people, we’re together and that’s showing on the pitch.

“We’re picking up wins at home and draws away and pushing up the table, so as a team we’ve been brilliant and we just need to keep that going and find some consistency.”

The 22-year-old has now matched the seven goals he scored last season and is the joint-highest scorer in the division.

Brereton thanked both the Rovers and Chile fans for their support which he feels has given him the extra motivation and confidence to help take his game to the next level.

He has played every minute of Rovers’ matches so far, and while manager Tony Mowbray is mindful of his workload, Brereton is eager for more and believes that will help him to keep improving.

“I’m a player that needs to be training all the time and always on the pitch. I train every day, work hard, and I think I need that to keep going,” he said ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Huddersfield Town.

“I’m happy that I’m playing a lot of minutes and it’s been a good start for me.

“I’m smiling when I’m on the pitch, I’m enjoying my football. This is what I’ve wanted from a young age and I’m just enjoying being out there playing football with my team-mates.

“We’re a young team who are growing, we’re not always going to be perfect but we’re together and we’ve shown that this season.

“I think we have got something exciting and we just have to keep going.”

On his three goals, Brereton said: “The first one, a brilliant cross from Tyrhys, I didn’t quite fancy it on my left foot so I went with my right, and thankfully it went in. The second one was a bit of luck and the penalty I felt confident.”
