CHORLEY will travel to either AFC Fylde or Spennymoor should they overcome Southport in tonight’s FA Cup second round qualifying tie replay.

The Magpies let a two-goal lead slip at Victory Park as Southport fought back to earn a replay at Haig Avenue tonight (7.45pm ko)

Chorley hit the front early, Jacob Blyth rising highest of everyone to flick the ball into Connor Hall’s path and he made no mistake in prodding the ball past Cam Mason.

Southport looked to respond quickly on the counter, Jack Doyle hitting the crossbar with his cross-cum-shot before Michael Woods hit a tame effort straight at Matt Urwin.

The visitors squandered a huge chance to equalise midway through the first half, former Ramsbottom United forward Josh Hmami putting it on a plate for Woods who somehow placed his shot wide of the target.

After withstanding some heavy Southport pressure, the Magpies took full advantage of a mistake from Mason and his defence, leaving Blyth to tap in to an empty net for his first goal in the famous black and white stripes.

Southport were awarded for their persistence in attack soon after the restart, Woods finding the bottom corner from 20-yards.

Chorley were made to work very hard to retain their lead until the final whistle but eventually came undone with five minutes to go, the returning Marcus Carver on hand to poke the ball home from Woods’ low cross.

“I thought we did extremely well in the first half, but we knew we were in for a game in the second half and we didn’t quite defend well enough for their two goals,” Chorley boss Jamie Vermiglio told the club website.

“We’ll go again in the replay and hopefully get through to the next round.”
