Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes is 6-1 second favourite to be named the next Newcastle United boss.
Reports in the North East today claim the Geordies want Harry Redknapp to replace Sam Allardyce, who was sacked yesterday after eight months in charge.
But they are also keen on Hughes if they can't prise Redknapp away from Portsmouth, the Newcastle Chronicle newspaper reported in their afternoon edition today.
Meanwhile, the Newcastle Sunday Sun newspaper believes it's a two-horse race between Redknapp and Hughes.
Former Blackburn striker Alan Shearer has ruled himself out of the job.
So far, Rovers have not made a comment, although Hughes signed a new contract just a few weeks ago.
