Robbie Savage has completed his move to Derby County after a fee was agreed with Blackburn Rovers.
Rams boss Paul Jewell had a bid accepted by Blackburn Rovers yesterday, that could eventually reach the £2 million mark, and the former Wales midfielder has now signed a two-and-a-half-year deal.
But Savage admitted he was leaving East Lancashire with good memories.
He said: "I have nothing but respect for Mark Hughes and John Williams (chairman).
"It's a fantastic club and I've only got good things to say about Blackburn.
"I wish them all the success and I'm sure they can get a European place."
"Blackburn could qualify for Europe but I would rather be playing week in week out."
He added: "I wanted to play first team football and Mark Hughes couldn't give me that on a regular basis.
"But the gaffer at Blackburn was fantastic for me, he gave me permission to speak to people."
