NELSON boss Denny Khan is backing his goalkeeper Billy Carrington to come back strong against Atherton LR tomorrow after a couple of howlers on New Year's Day.
Carrington was partially at fault for his side's 4-1 defeat at St Helens Town when he palmed the first two goals into his own net.
"It was a nightmare," said Khan. "It was a bad day for Billy and a bad day for us.
"But Billy's my captain and has saved us that many times that he is allowed a clanger or two. But there's nobody better than him and I'm sure he will back to his best."
Nelson - second bottom of Vodkat League Division One with just two wins all season - desperately need to turn their season around to escape relegation.
Khan added: "We've now got two six-pointers against Atherton LR and Abbey Hey.
"They are absolutely massive games and we've got to win them."
The Blues welcome back Ed O'Neill, while Khan has signed striker Gary Smith.
Matt Anderton is the new captain of Darwen after the recent departure of Jason Jones.
Dennis Hill, who has joined Nelson, has also left the Anchor Ground outfit who entertain bottom of the table Daisy Hill.
"We have a new ethos at this club and players need to fit in," said manager Wayne Watkins.
"The move for Dennis is probably a good one because he has hardly featured since I arrived.
"Jason was our captain and a very good player but due to injuries we have played without him for long periods and have done very well.
"Since I took over, I have slowly been bringing in players and I am happy with my squad."
