PAUL Fletcher knows a thing or two about FA Cup uspets.

In his 16-year professional career, the talented striker helped to make them and was on the wrong end of a couple.

And on morning of Arsenal's visit to Turf Moor, the club's development director is hoping the Clarets can produce one of the shocks of the round by beating the Gunners.

Although the bookies have the Clarets at 8/1 to upset the Gunners, Fletcher is hoping that a few Burnley punters might make a few quid with a home win.

He said: "I remember we played Wimbledon (now MK Dons) and we were supposed to beat them three or four nil.

"But they came up to Turf Moor and beat us 1-0 so shocks do happen. But whatever happens on the day, it will be a fantastic day for the crowd."

Fletcher, who is fast approaching his 57th birthday on January 13, played in the last team that beat Arsenal in 1974 - setting up the winning goal for Peter Noble - who had players like Pat Rice, Liam Brady, Charlie George and Brian Kidd in their ranks.

And Fletcher says a similar result isn't beyond the realms of fantasy.

He said: "During the 1970s, we had a fantastic team. We weren't fantastic individuals but we worked well as a team and that helped us to beat the likes of Arsenal, Leeds and Liverpool.

"And it's that team ethic that will be key if Burnley are to be successful.

"Owen Coyle will have the team fired up. We've had some fantastic away victories, and although we've had a tough time of it in the last couple of weeks, the rule book goes out of the window in these games.

"It's 11 men against 11 and it's down to whoever prepares the best and plays the best on the day that will come out on top.

"Skill is a key requirement. They've got some fantastically skilful players but attitude and luck can play a massive part on the day.

"When I played, teams from the south didn't like travelling to East Lanca-shire and I hope the players who venture up at the weekend feel the same way."
