Rovers remain under a transfer embargo but are continuing to work on transfer deals.
Adam Reach, released by Sheffield Wednesday, is understood to be one target as Tony Mowbray hopes to add proven Championship campaigners to his squad.
Rovers are currently unable to buy any players under their current registration embargo, one the club is working to remove in a bid to step-up their summer recruitment.
Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen, twice a promotion-winner with Fulham, is also understood to be on Rovers’ radar, with midfield one area of the pitch set to undergo an overhaul.
Three senior central midfielders, as well as loanee Tom Trybull, have departed since the end of last season, with Bradley Johnson the only out-of-contract player in that area of the pitch to be retained.
Johansen was linked to Rovers in January, and while that was never likely given the make-up of the squad, interest is higher this time around.
The 31-year-old, under contract at Fulham until 2022, went on to join QPR and started 21 consecutive matches in their impressive end to the season.
Fulham, without a manager after the departure of Scott Parker to Fulham, are expected to be open to offer for the Norwegian who has won 55 caps and scored six goals for the national team.
The left-footer would be bring balance, experience and creativity to the centre of the pitch, and has been allowed to leave on loan twice in recent seasons, finishing the 2018/19 campaign with West Bromwich Albion as they missed out in the play-offs.
Rovers are yet to add to their squad, owing to their current embargo, and returned to pre-season training this week.
The Lancashire Telegraph understands that a number of deals are being worked on amid the prospect of that being lifted upon the publication of the club’s accounts.
That would be a boost to Mowbray and the club’s supporters, who are keen to see some fresh faces added to a squad which finished 15th in the Championship last season.
