OWEN Coyle wants to keep his young talent at Burnley.
The Clarets boss knows he faces a battle to hang on to players such as Kyle Lafferty and Chris McCann with the transfer window now open ahead of this afternoon's trip to Blackpool.
But Coyle has stressed he wouldn't do anything to the detriment of the football club.
Lafferty has already been the subject of a triple bid from Fulham, as well as approaches from Celtic and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the last 12 months, while McCann, who is available for the trip to Bloomfield Road after suspension, has upped his profile with some consistently impressive midfield per-formances this season.
"I'd be surprised if they weren't attracting interest," said Coyle. "There's always going to be interest in players in our team, equally as we are interested in players at other clubs.
"It's flattering in a way, but we wouldn't be in any rush to do anything to the detriment of this football club."
As for his own transfer dealings, Coyle is looking to add to his squad as quickly as possible this month.
"We're always trying to improve our squad. Finances will come into it as we've got to operate within our budget, but we're always looking," he said.
"And when we want players in, we'll try to get them in as early as possible. But there are a number of factors that will come into play, such as the club we want the player from will have to be in a position where they are allowed to let him go; it will depend if it is a permanent or a loan move; and it will also depend on whether the player wants to come to the club or not.
"So there are lots of things that need to be taken into consideration, but we've certainly been very hard working on that front and have spoken to a number of clubs."
Meanwhile, McCann and Graham Alexander look set to go straight back into Burnley's starting line-up to face Blackpool today after completing their three-match and one-match bans respectively.
"I'm delighted to have them available because they are big FROM BACK PAGE players for the football club," said Coyle. "We've been juggling things in their absence and Jon Harley and James O'Connor have worked thier socks off and done terrific for the team in central midfield and there's no doubt they've played their part.
"But everyone knows the opinion we've got of Chris McCann. He's a good and exciting player and it will be nice to get him back into his normal position."
However, Clarke Carlisle could be ruled out for up to a month with a recurrence of a hamstring problem.
"If he responds to treatment early it might not be that long. He's probably in the best hands possible with Mitch (Andy Mitchell) and his physio team," added Coyle, who is looking to recover from the disappointment of a third home defeat in four games at Turf Moor by kicking off 2008 with a win at Blackpool.
"It was a disappointing result, but not performance. Having said that you want to get in amongst the points again as quickly as possible," he said.
"Blackpool provides that opportunity. They had a fantastic result on Saturday so we have to be at our best."
