Rovers favourite Jordan Rhodes has eyes on reaching a century of Huddersfield Town goals after signing a three-year deal with the club.

Rhodes was released by Sheffield Wednesday earlier this week and will re-join the Terriers in July and stay in the Championship after the Owls’ relegation.

Now 31, Rhodes scored 87 times for the club between 2009 and 2012 before his switch to Ewood Park where he managed two fewer in a similar timeframe after an £8m move.

Moves to Middlesbrough in 2016 and Sheffield Wednesday 18 months later haven’t worked out for Rhodes, with opportunities and goals in short supply since his departure from Rhodes.

Despite a clamour from Rovers fans, they were never in the running for a Rhodes reunion, something Huddersfield have now secured following a shortage of goals in 2020/21.

For head coach Carlos Corberan, he feels Rhodes provides him with an excellent option and is looking forward to the prospect of working with him.

He said: “We are really happy to add Jordan to our squad, he’s a very intelligent striker that has a lot of experience and a very good record in this division.

“When a player wants to come back to a club, it’s because he feels close to the supporters and that there’s something special to him about being a Terrier.

“As a striker, he gives us a lot of options and has the skillset to compliment the other forwards we have in our team. He makes clever runs, will fight in the air, help with the build phase, and is sharp in front of goal.”

Rhodes is eighth on Huddersfield’s all-time scoring list with 87 in 148 games and is the Championship’s second highest goalscorer, on 155.
