TWO goals in a minute spiced up this Boxing Day war of the roses.
Sheffield Wednesday, who crossed the Pennines with an army of fans, took the lead in controversial circumstances.
Steven Caldwell conceded a penalty for felling Marcus Tudgay as the Owls' striker burst into the box - a decision which the Burnley captain hotly disputed. But there was more drama to follow as Deon Burton scored from the spot when Gabor Kiraly was clearly not ready.
The Burnley goalkeeper had his back to play as he walked slowly towards his goalline in an effort to put off Wednesday's penalty taker.
The Clarets turned to referee Scott Mathieson expecting him to order a re-take, but the Cheshire official was not forthcoming and the Owls celebrated.
But Burnley silenced them a minute later as David Unsworth launched an inviting crossfield ball to Wade Elliott, the right winger pumped it into the six-yard box, where Robbie Blake had a close-range header saved by Lee Grant.
The rebound fell invitingly to Ade Akinbiyi at the far left-hand post, and the striker hammered his fifth of the season into the roof of the net.
