BURNLEY Reserves missed out on a double over their Manchester City counterparts despite a late fightback after letting a 1-0 lead slip.

Adam Kay put the young Clarets in the driving seat just before the half-hour.

But City hit back through Robert Mak's second half double whammy and Jack Redshaw's 76th minute wonder goal.

Substitute Chris Anderson pulled a goal back for Burnley with just over 10 minutes to go, and James Craggs was denied a late leveller by the goalkeeper, but it wasn't enough to salvage a point.

Burnley made a bright start and Wes Fletcher almost benefited from an early goalkeeping error when his low shot crept through Joe Clegg's hands.

City responded and Michael Daly hit the post after cutting in from the right before seeing a back-post header dip over the bar.

But Burnley regained their composure and after Alex MacDonald forced a low save from his firm right-foot shot, Kay made use of acres of space to finish well from outside the box.

City came out stronger in the second half and equalised on the hour when Mak reacted quickest to Daly's blocked shot inside the area.

The striker then cut through the defence to get the better of Jonathan Sergeant in a one-on-one.

Winger Redshaw then thought he had sealed it for City with an excellent long-range strike.

But Anderson had an immediate impact for Burnley as, after replacing Fletcher with 12 minutes to go, he got on the end of MacDonald's left-wing delivery and hit it first time inside the six-yard box to give Burnley hope.

Despite the Clarets causing a late scare, though, City saw the game out.
