ACCRINGTON STANLEY striker Paul Mullin is hoping Father Christmas brings him just one gift this festive season - goals.

The 33-year-old has hit a barren spell in front of goal by his high standards and hasn't been on the scoresheet since the FA Cup defeat to Huddersfield over a month ago.

But with a busy run of games over the next two weeks, the father of three is looking forward to putting that right and celebrating in style.

He said: "It's a good time of year because the games come thick and fast, although it's not the greatest of times if you've got a family.

"But there are a lot of opportunities to score goals and pick up points.

"It's just getting the right amount of rest in between, but we've got a big squad this year so I think we can do well."

Stanley have won just two of their last six matches, which has led to unrest among the Reds faithful.

But Mullin believes the perfect present to give the loyal fans would be a sack full of points come the beginning of January.

He added: "I'm glad we're not in a relegation fight, although we've slipped down the table a bit. There's a massive few weeks in front of us.

"We want to be pushing towards the play-offs and, if we can string some results together, then we can do that."
