BLACKBURN have ended a hugely successful 2007 with a hard fought win at Didsbury Toc.

The victory means the Ramsgreave Drive side go in to the Christmas break having won all 11 games in the current campaign - and just one defeat in the calendar year.

Chairman of Rugby, Gareth Dyer is delighted with his side's performance over the last year but it not getting carried away.

He said: "We have come a long way in the last 12 months. We have only lost one game in the league apart from the disappointing play-off defeat at Leigh.

"We have played some good rugby and have put ourselves in a strong position to do well as we move into the second half of the season.

"Nobody is getting carried away but we have much to play for in 2008 and we will continue to build on the progress made during 2007."

The game itself mirrored the previous match between the two sides four weeks earlier with Burn dominating the first hour only to be pegged back for some late nervous moments.

Blackburn took an early lead when skipper Paul Bleasdale slotted over a penalty before winger Matthew Pickles showed a great turn of pace and a decent side step to score wide out on the right.

The lead was further stretched when full back Nick Barnes kicked a beautiful drop goal after the visitors had strung together a number of phases.

Burn's next score came after 25 minutes. From a pre-planned move, Barnes broke against the defence before putting skipper Bleasdale over for another score to make it 16-0.

After the break, Didsbury got on the scoresheet with a penalty but Blackburn extended their lead further when they crossed for their third try.

At 21-3, Blackburn were in control and looking to add to their total Didsbury got back in to the game with two quick fire tries.

Blackburn conceded possession as they pressed for a fourth try and home winger Davies picked up the loose ball to run fully 80 metres to score.

The conversion was missed and with 15 minutes remaining the score was 21-8.

The lead was cut to six points when Didsbury were awarded a penalty try after Davies was blocked chasing a kick ahead.

The try was converted to set up a nervy ending.

Dyer added: "We were in total control for 60 minutes and should really have been 30-35 points up by that stage.

"However two moments of madness gifted the home side two scores and that made the game uncomfortably close.

"The important thing is that we again closed the game out and we took another two valuable points.

"Rossendale had a precious win at Wigton and both teams will go into the New Year in good heart.

"We've had quite a few players missing in the last two weeks but with two weeks rest over the Christmas period we will have a fully fit squad firing on all cylinders by the time of our next league game."
