ONE of East Lancashire's most successful junior teams has set its sights on another goal - raising funds to compete in a prestigious competition in America.
Knuzden Juniors Under 14s has embarked on a 10-month fund-raising campaign to compete in the Pikes Peak Invitational Tournament in Colorado Springs.
And, if their feats on the pitch is anything to go by, Knuzden will do it.
The club is holding a series of events including sponsored walk, bag packing, car boot sale and a disco to fund the two week trip next July The team has won at least one trophy a season since they came together as an under 10s side four years ago - in 2006, the entire Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and District Junior and Youth League side that one the LFA Under 12s Inter League Trophy were made up of Knuzden players.
And last year, Knuzden, representing Lancashire reached the final of the National Tesco Cup only to lose on penalties.
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these lads and we'll be working are hardest to raise the funds," said manager Derek Slater. "We have already planned a number of fund raising events but it would be fantastic if we could secure funding from a local business or company."
