THE curse of the Manager-of-the-Month award is well documented, but Accrington Stanley midfielder Andy Procter believes he's currently suffering the effects of his Player-of-the-Month accolade.
The 24-year-old scooped the August and September PFA Fans Player of the Month award for League Two.
But he admits, after a sensational start to the season, where he scored four goals in the first few months, including a brace against Grimsby, his form has taken a tumble and he has failed to find the back of the net since his strike against Dagenham and Redbridge in the middle of October.
He said: "I was really pleased with the first few months of the season, definitely. But then I got the award and I've not scored of late and my form has suffered a bit.
"I'm the first to admit that, but it's not been through a lack of effort. I've just got to get my head down and keep working hard to get things back on track."
And Stanley will be hoping to get their season back on track tomorrow against Chesterfield.
The Reds haven't won a match since they overcame local rivals Morecambe at the start of last month and are reeling from their 5-0 hammering at the hands of league leaders MK Dons last week.
Even more frustrating is their poor home form. Stanley have only won three games at the Fraser Eagle Stadium, which was something of a fortress last year and key to their survival in league football.
Procter said: "Our home form has been good ever since I've been at the club, this is the first time we've ever had a problem.
"It's something I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe the lads are a bit nervous, but it's something that needs sorting out.
"The fans have been great and they've turned out in all kinds of weather to support us.
"We owe them a performance, especially after last week. It was a really disappointed camp after the game. We always do well against the bigger teams, but we lost that early goal and I think that hit our confidence."
"We've all been working hard in training this week to try to cut out the mistakes and stop conceding early goals. Clean sheets are a great platform to build on.
"We want the chance to rectify last week's result and tomorrow is a perfect opportunity."
