BLACKBURN manager Mark Hughes is ready to go back to basics in a bid to address Rovers' recent slump.
After gleaning just five points from their last six games in the league, conceding 10 goals in the process, Rovers have slipped off the pace in the battle to claim a top-six Premier League finish.
Hughes was particularly perturbed by Sunday's 1-0 home defeat at the hands of West Ham United, a performance he described as not being anywhere near the level it needed to be', and he made those feelings clear during a frank meeting with the players on Monday morning.
Now the Rovers boss plans to get things back on track again by working on the fundamentals' in training this week, knowing it's vital his players bounce back with a strong performance against Wigan at the weekend.
"It's a case of highlighting certain things we need to work on," said Hughes, who was particularly disappointed by the first half performance on Sunday.
"Sometimes if you don't address it for a short period of time, because there is so much (other stuff) to highlight leading into games, then people sometimes have to be reminded about the fundamentals, and that's what we'll be working on this week."
Two home defeats in the space of 12 days, against Aston Villa and then West Ham at the weekend, have hindered Rovers' progress.
However, Hughes is determined to make sure that double set-back is only a temporary blip as his players prepare to embark on a run of five games in 15 days over Christmas, starting with the weekend trip to the JJB Stadium.
The Rovers chief said: "We've got lots of games coming up and the league starts to take shape around this time of the year, so Sunday was a set-back but we need to pick ourselves up and go again, which we are capable of doing.
"It's important that we bounce back from Sunday's disappointment.
"We were able to do that against Newcastle after the disappointment of the Villa defeat, so it's important we do that again against Wigan."
