Rovers midfielder Brad Lyons has signed for League Two side Morecambe on loan until the end of the season.
Lyons could make his debut for the Shrimps in their FA Cup tie with Chelsea this weekend after being given to play in the competition by his parent club.
Derek Adams’ side are currently occupying the final play-off spot in League Two and will be looking for a positive end to the season.
Lyons had scored six goals in his last six appearances at Under-23s level for Rovers Under-23s, who are second in Premier League 2, after netting in the win at Derby County last time out.
That backed up his double in the win at Liverpool, as well as goals against Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Manchester United in what has been a fine run of form for the Northern Irishman breaking forward from midfield.
At 23, Lyons is the oldest of Rovers Under-23s and a player the club have wanted to get more experience out on loan.
Signed from Coleraine in the summer of 2018 he has become a regular for the Under-23s in that time, while he had a taste of regular football during a loan spell at St Mirren in the second half of the 2018/19 season. There Lyons played 17 times, scoring once.
He built a reputation of being able to grab a goal from midfield which prompted Rovers to make their move in 2018, signing him initially on loan before making that deal permanent.
Lyons signed a new one-year deal last summer and is one of a number of players within the Under-23s set-up whose contracts are up for renewal.
Although yet to make a first-team appearance for Rovers, he has appeared in a matchday squad this season and will get his chance to progress his career with the Shrimps.
