Rovers have handed supporters an early Christmas present with news that Bradley Dack has signed a new contract.
Dack’s previous deal was set to expire in the summer, though the club did have a 12 month option to extend.
Talks over an extended contract have been ongoing for some time however, with Dack putting pen to paper on a deal through to 2023. That also includes a one-year option in the club’s favour.
It is exactly 12 months since Dack was taken off on a stretcher against Wigan Athletic, with scans revealing he had suffered an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury.
Dack signed for Rovers for £750,000 from Gillingham and went on to score 18 goals as the club achieved promotion from League One, the attacker named the division’s player of the season.
He signed a new deal in the summer of 2018 and hit the ground running in his first Championship season, scoring 17 goals in the 2018/19 campaign.
The 26-year-old was on 10 goals before injury struck against Wigan 12 months ago, but he hopes to back fit in the new year after playing for the Under-23s in their win over Derby County on Monday.
Dack has gone on to make 114 appearances in Rovers colours, scoring 46 goals.
“It feels really good,” said Dack. “It’s been going on a while now, but we got there in the end, so it feels nice to commit to this club for three more years and with the option at the end of it it could be four, so I’m really pleased.
“This club gave me the opportunity to come here in League One and show what I can do and the gaffer believed in me. The club have given me the opportunity to play in the Championship for the first time and has stuck by me through the injury, so I felt like I owed the club a little bit and as long as the deal was right for both parties then I was happy to sign.
“I firmly believe that this squad right now is good enough to get into the Premier League. We’ve had some inconsistent results, but it’s just about turning those games that we’re dominating into wins and I think that we definitely have the players to do that and with the players coming back, it will give us a massive chance.”
