CLARKE Carlisle insists it's only a matter of time before Burnley hand out a real thrashing at Turf Moor - so his former club QPR had better watch out!

The Clarets have taken the Championship by storm on their travels in the wake of Owen Coyle's appointment, grabbing a maximum of nine points at three of the toughest places in the division.

Watford, Charlton and Wolves - all promotion contenders - have felt the full force of a newly invigorated Burnley in their own backyard.

But while Coyle has fully exceeded expectations in his first fortnight - steering the Clarets to the brink of a play-off place - the one thing missing is a home victory.

Defender Carlisle, however, believes that long-awaited Turf triumph is just around the corner - and he anticipates a flurry of goals along the way.

And it could well be that tonight's opponents, rock bottom QPR, are on the wrong end of a demolition job.

"Even though our home results haven't be so positive in the last couple of games, the actual football we've played has been excellent," said Carlisle.

"The results haven't been deserving of the performance. But one day, somebody is going to get smacked six or seven when everything clicks."

And Carlisle, who made over 100 appearances for QPR before later stints at Leeds and Watford, reckons the Hoops should be worried.

He added: "If you are bottom of the league, and you go to a team whose form is excellent, you are going to be worried.

"I know from being on the opposition that nobody wants to come to Burnley on a Tuesday night. It's grim as it is on a Saturday! It's going to be cold and wet and QPR are not going to want to be here.

"But we are not stupid enough to think we can just turn up, swan around, and get three points.

"We are going to have to match them, first and foremost, and then hopefully our quality will produce a positive result."

The Clarets will move to the heady heights of fourth place with victory over Luigi De Canio's strugglers.

Their sudden transformation on the road has caught most people by surprise, and Carlisle insists recent results against the division's top sides has sent out a shuddering message through the Championship.

"I'm sure when the gaffer came in and saw the three away games - Watford, Charlton and Wolves - he must have thought it was going to be difficult.

"We'd have probably taken four or five points, but to take all nine is absolutely fantastic and it just shows where we should be setting our sights.

"People will have seen the Watford result and thought that's a shock', and then the Charlton result would have raised a few more eyebrows. Now with the Wolves result, people are sitting up and taking notice.

"We had an inkling that we might be able to do well with the nucleus of what we've got, and now there's the proof that we can do well."

But Carlisle has warned the Clarets not to waste their stunning away results against the top sides by failing to beat those nearer the bottom.

He added: "It's an excellent record we've got against the top seven or eight teams, but it's no good producing those results and then not matching it against the bottom seven or eight.

"If you are serious about doing anything in the Championship, you've got to produce results week in, week out, so this coming week we have two vitally important matches."And as the Clarets aim to chalk up only their third home win of the season, Carlisle believes Burnley's vocal fans can play their part.

"The last home game we played - against Leicester - was by far the most vocal I've heard Burnley fans since I've been here," said the 28-year-old, who joined the Clarets from Watford this summer.

"It was incessant volume for the whole 90 minutes. It was excellent, and it spurs you on.

"When you here the crowd get behind you, it picks you up to go again and again. I honestly believe they are taking on the mantle of what Owen Coyle is bringing to this club."

After being denied by Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy on Saturday, Clarets striker Andy Gray will relish the opportunity of adding to his 13 goals for the season.

The Scotland international is among the Championship's leading scorers and Carlisle admits he would not swap Gray - nor the attacking options of Robbie Blake and Ade Akinbiyi for anyone else.

He continued: "Don't doubt Andy Gray. His scoring ability is phenomenal, and he will bag 20 goals minimum this season.

"I would not swap the trio we've got - Andy, Robbie and Ade - for anyone else.

"We've also got Kyle Lafferty bursting through. He's such a good talent and he can't get a spot in his favoured position. That speaks volumes for the other three."
