Rovers Ladies are looking up after an Elise Hughes brace gave them a third victory of the season.

Hughes scoring twice, with captain Saffron Jordan scoring on her 150th appearance for the club late on, as Rovers beat bottom side London Bees 3-0.

Rovers have now won three and lost three of their Championship fixtures to sit sixth in the standings, leaving coach Katy Quinlan looking upwards.

Everton loanee Hughes scored her first of the game 10 minutes before the break, adding a second in the 72nd minute from the spot, before Jordan adding the finishing touches with 11 minutes remaining.

And Quinlan said: “We are happy with the performance, ultimately it’s three goals and a clean sheet but also with the way the girls played, they are starting to come together as a team and the new signings so it is really positive.

“It was a nervy first part to the game but we are trying to threaten in behind a bit more and having support in numbers, Elise Hughes’ first goal was going to come.

“I gave her a little bit of stick about making sure she is getting her sprints in a little bit more and she made a goal from that as well as working hard off the ball so it is good for her, I’m pleased for her to get the goals that she has done.”

Hughes’ first was a tap-in from close range, after Jordan was denied by the ‘keeper, before adding a second from the spot after Emma Doyle was brought down in the box.

Jordan lifted the ball over the advancing ‘keeper to make certain of the win, with Rovers chasing a fourth late on, with Natasha Fenton denied by the crossbar.

“We’re sixth with a game in hand. We want to make progress from last season,” Quinlan added.
