Jack Evans’ 14-year association with Rovers has come to an end, after the teenager revealed his departure from the club.
Evans has endured an injury-ravaged two years that has seen him play just 10 Under-23s matches since turning professional in 2018, having first joined the club at the age of six.
A broken leg in October cut short his 2018/19 season and it wasn’t until November 2019 that he returned to action, before suffering another injury after returning from a loan spell at Northern Premier League Premier Division side Lancaster City earlier this year.
The 19-year-old, who has played at left back and central midfield during his Academy days, was a key member of the Under-23s side that won promotion to Premier League 2 under Damien Johnson in 2017/18.
That earned him a professional deal at the club, but his progress has been stunted somewhat by the injuries he’s sustained over the course of the last two years.
Evans was one of a number of Academy players whose deals will expire this summer, and he took to social media to announce his exit, as he targets a fresh start away from Ewood Park.
He said: “After nearly 14 years at the club, I’m leaving Blackburn Rovers.
“Want to say thanks to all the coaches, staff and players that have helped me on my journey so far, and good luck to all the boys at the club going forward.
“Not how I’d have liked my two years in professional to have gone due to injuries, but in adversity is the opportunity for growth.
“Have learnt a lot about myself during these experiences and have come through it all hungrier and more determined than ever.
“Can’t wait to start the new chapter of my career, getting back playing and showing everyone what I’m capable of.”
Meanwhile, Charley Doyle has also seen his 13-year stay at Rovers come to an end.
The 21-year-old has also had injury issues this season which have seen him play just eight times for Billy Barr's Under-23s side.
However, the versatile Doyle, able to play in midfield or defence, has been a mainstay of the Under-23s since graduating through the club's Academy.
He too announced his departure on social media, writing: "Would like to thank everyone at Blackburn Rovers, it's been a pleasure spending most of my life at the club making the player and person I am today.
"Disappointed about last year with the injuries I had but I am looking forward to seeing what the next chapter in my career will be."
