COLNE produced a workman like performance to dispose of basement club Bacup and record their first league victory since the end of September.

It was also a first clean sheet for Mark Crossley since Colne knocked Bacup out of the FA Vase in mid-September, as Borough failed to find the killer touch in front of goal.

After five minutes Scott Gizon rose above the Bacup defence to meet Ted Cockett's corner, but his header struck the crossbar.

Michael Cruz then broke clear on the right, but his shot was blocked by Matthew Cross.

Young Bacup keeper Dave Gallagher pulled off the save of the game to deny Cockett, but from the resulting corner Michael Rosser headed home to give Colne the lead.

Minutes later Bacup had Gallagher to thank again when he dived to his right to turn Cockett's free kick round the post.

After half an hour Liam Garbutt was put through by Cruz but he was brought down by Cross on the edge of the area.

Once again Gallagher turned the ball wide for a corner.

Rosser was quick to react again but this time his effort went over the bar Bacup had a chance to level before the break, but Crossley was alert to the free-kick from Cross.

In the second half, Colne had an early chance when Urwin broke through the Bacup defence, but he was adjudged offside.

Cockett then cut inside and unleashed a shot which went just wide.

Ian Barker and Danny Hartley both went close for the visitors.

Colne's rhythm was then broken when Kieron Roberts was involved in a serious collision with Bryan Herbert and he was taken to hospital with a bad head wound.

But his replacement, Stevie Hall, was soon in action and after a goalmouth melee his shot was scrambled off the line.

On the counter attack, Bacup almost grabbed a late equaliser but Adam Lucas blasted wide.
