BLACKBURN secured a bonus-point 30-10 victory over Kirkby Lonsdale as Dino Radice’s side made it three wins on the bounce.
Three first half tries and a solid second half performance was enough to pick up the points as Blackburn cemented their top six spot in North Premier.
The home side had a strong wind behind them in the first half but it was Kirkby who got points on the board first after Myles Harrop was sent to the sin bin for the a high tackle.
Leon Fifield pulled the scores level with a penalty for Burn and the numbers were also soon level as a Kirkby player was shown a yellow card.
Blackburn’s first try arrived in the 11th minute when Josh Reilly squeezed over in the corner following some good work by Sammy Russell. The conversion was missed.
Four minutes later, Reilly crossed for his second of the day. Scott Richardson made an initial break before passing to Reilly who had a clear run in. Fifield added the conversion then slotted over a penalty to make it 15-3.
A third try arrived in the 32nd minute with Russell heavily involved. First, he read the play well to intercept a pass then made a half break with the ball shifted to Corey Logan who took Burn to within 15 metres of the line. He then passed outside to Greg Nicholls who ran in to score. The conversion was kicked by Fifield and Burn led 25-3 at half time.
With the wind now behind, Kirkby would have hoped they could come back at Burn, however on 50 minutes Burn struck a hammer blow as they scored their fourth try to secure a bonus point.
From a line out just outside the Kirkby 22 the ball was over thrown, however Tom Lavelle took it, he brushed off one man and then ran further than many had ever seen, as he closed in on the try line, he held off the final defender to score.
In the 68th minute, Kirkby gave themselves a bit of a lifeline as they scored a try and conversion.
The visitors continued to try and push for more points, but Burn managed to keep them a safe distance from the try line and the game finished 30-10. Blackburn have a tough trip to promotion-chasing Harrogate on Saturday.
