FORMER Burnley striker Andy Payton has been named the new first team manager at Garstang FC.
Payton scored 68 goals in 156 appearances for the Clarets in a spell starting in 1998 and ending in 2003.
Garstang were delighted to announce the appointment of Payton as manger with immediate effect following a lengthy selection process from the club.
Payton will bring plenty of experience to the club following a long professional playing career at Hull City, Middlesbrough, Celtic, Barnsley, Huddersfield and Burnley.
During his fantastic career Andy made 588 appearances and scoring 226 goals in the process.
Following retirement Payton moved into coaching and has had spells at Colne, Padiham and recently as first team Coach at Hallmark Security Premier League side Northwich Victoria.
Payton holds a UEFA A Coaching License. Garstang chairman Adrian Wilding said of the appointment: "This is a great day for the football club, the club sponsors and of course our supporters and players.
"We have secured the services of a highly motivated, hugely respected, stand out coach who will be able to build on the progress of recent seasons and drive the club forward."
On being appointed Payton added: "I am excited at the prospect of joining such a progressive and successful football club and I will be looking forward to working with the strong playing squad already in place.
"My objective is to build on the clubs excellent debut season last year in the Hallmark Security League and push Garstang FC on to the next level."
"I've worked in Pro Academy’s to get my coaching badges and worked as the first team coach at Northwich Victoria in the last five years so the opportunity to be a manager is one I’m really looking forward to."
