BLACKBURN Hawks put an end to their disappointing run of defeats with a sensational victory over ice hockey giants Paisley Pirates.

Hawks battled hard against an intimidating Paisley outfit and netted a last-minute winner to secure a 3-2 victory over the Scottish Premier League side.

After moving up into the play-offs of the Northern League Cup, courtesy of the double points victory, assistant manager Graham Lomax is glad to see the back of their disappointing run.

"It was certainly great to get a win on the board," admitted Lomax. "We were fantastic on the night and in the end we definitely deserved to win.

"They tried to intimidate us and bully us, but we stood our ground, sat back and then hit them on the break. We have been practicing our breaks in training over the past week or so and we looked really sharp.

"It was a very close game - we were 2-1 up with two minutes to go and then they equalised. Luckily we had just enough left in our tank to find the winner."

The fixture in Paisley was Hawks' fourth consecutive game on the road and Lomax is looking forward to a return to the Arena.

"We have been away from home a lot recently, especially up in Scotland - and some of the lads are even starting to talk in a Scottish accent!

"All the travelling has been difficult for everyone, but they showed a real team spirit on Saturday and grabbed a deserved victory."

Richard Bentham continued his fine goalscoring form with the opener against the Pirates, while head coach Ian McDade added the second, before Lance Derbyshire snatched a last-gasp winner.
