Rovers Ladies will be playing in the second tier of women’s football next season after the FA deemed their application to be successful.
Gemma Donnelly’s side won the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division at a canter, with a 21-point gap to second place – winning 23 of their 24 league matches.
They wrapped up the Lancashire Challenge Cup on Thursday night, adding to their league cup success earlier this season.
Rovers also won the league in the 2017/18 and 2016/17 seasons, only to miss out on promotion after losing the play-off game two years running.
A rule change meant that Rovers would be promoted, regardless of the play-off outcome, should the club’s application be accepted.
And the FA have rubber-stamped that meaning they will be playing in the second tier for the 2019/20 season.
A statement said: "The FA can today confirm that club licences for The FA Women’s Super League have been awarded to both Manchester United FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC for next season.
"In addition both Blackburn Rovers and Coventry United have been awarded club licenses for The FA Women’s Championship for next season."
- There’s still one game left for Rovers Ladies this season. They face Southern Premier Division winners Coventry United in the Championship play off at Bradford City on Saturday, May 18 (2pm), to decide the third tier ‘champion of champions’.
Tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions, available online or on the gate.
Official Rovers coach travel can also be purchased online, priced at £10.
